Carbon release in glass production will halve
European glass packaging manufacturers come together to build the first hybrid electric large-scale glass smelting furnace that works with 80 percent green energy. The 20 glass packaging manufacturer, which is located in Turkey, announced that they have joined the resources for this project by bringing together for the first time in history. Designed in the leadership of the European Union Glass Packaging Manufacturers Association (FEVE), the ‘Geling Furnace’ will serve a significant milestone in the carbonate journey of glass packaging industry. The furnace, which will replace existing fossil fuel energy sources, will reduce the total carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent in glass production.
Why is the oven project important?]
[
Nowadays, the use of electricity as the main source of energy in glass packaging industry is limited to recycled glass, small-scale ovens. The remaining large producers addicted to natural gas ie fossil fuels. This technology will be able to use high proportion recycled glass which is not possible with electric furnaces. This technology, which will change 80 percent of the gas with green energy, will help reduce the total carbon dioxide emissions of 60 percent and a glass packaging factory about 50 percent. Thanks to the flexibility of hybrid technology, if there is a problem in electrical energy, it can be switched to other energy sources. In this way, it is aimed not to experience any disruption in production.
