Climate crisis compromised chocolate production
Reaching chocolate consumed by love may not be very easy. Because the raw material of chocolate is cocoa plants, under large threat due to climate change. In the research published in the magazine named 'Iklim Change', Ivory Coast and 294 cocoa growing region in Ghana were evaluated according to the estimates of climate change, higher temperatures and more dry conditions were reached. In addition, only 10 percent of existing cocoa grown regions will continue to be suitable for cocoa in 2050. So high temperatures will cause evaporation and lead to similar conditions in the regions where the cocoa grows (Nigerya, Cameroon and eastern Ivory Coast). This drought will affect the production of cocoa according to the high temperature factor because the regions will not be suitable for cocoa cultivation. However, in some areas, temperature rise can be compensated with precipitation but not anywhere.
How can the tree be saved?
Since [[T]2050 has been a few decades later in our front, it can be replaced with these varieties of cocoa plants available with the provision of growth, despite the growing and drought conditions of the modified cocoa varieties, as a long-term solution. According to another prevention, it is possible to pull out the heat by holding cocoa trees in the shade. So planted tall rainforest trees around cocoa trees can be a way to reduce the effect of high temperatures. It is thought that the shade of large trees reduces the temperature of cocoa leaves to 4 degrees. As a result, the adoption of advanced genetic and agricultural forestry methods can help cocoa growers to be climate resistant and we can continue to eat chocolate.
