Why is a critical risk?]
The explanations made in the presentation of the statement in COP30 revealed that the wrong information about climate is no longer just an online problem; the policy processes, public and even a multi-layer threat that affects the safety of scientists. The UN Information Integrity Senior Advisor Charlotte Scaddan stated that the wrong and misleading information on climate is spread in an unprecedented speed:
] False claims are deliberately involved in circulation in multiple platforms, with the process called ‘Information laundering’, these contents are shown from reliable sources, the fossil fuel industry is among the main carriers of the dezenformation of influencers fed from the political actors and digital hate economy. According to Scaddan, this table not only weakens the confidence in science; also brings climate defenders, researchers and journalists to the target. For this reason, the integrity of information in COP30 was formed in the international level by moving to the official agenda for the first time.
